Forbes
Cover Story
This story got Microsoft into hot water with government trust
busters--and set off a five year legal battle. Back then--the late
1990s--nobody had heard much about Steve Ballmer, Bill Gates' right hand
man. But what he said in this cover story about Microsoft's business
determination, executive style, and plans to crush Netscape with
Internet Explorer, changed all that. Within weeks Netscape's chief
executive brandished a copy of this story at a Senate hearing, reading
several passages into the record. It kicked off the monumental antitrust
battle that pitted the U.S. Government against the Boys from Redmond.
Wired
Cisco Story
This story told the inside tale of Cisco Systems, one of the greatest
success stories of the digital age, and captured the company's
particular culture. The story focused on John Chambers, the company's
soft-spoken leader--he later called this piece "the finest thing ever
written about our company." It framed the battle to build out the
networks of tomorrow as a war between the Bellheads and the Netheads for
the chance to build society's new world communications order.
Linear
Technology Annual Report
This analog semiconductor manufacturer wanted to create an annual report
that went beyond the commonplace. The theme the executives highlighted
for that year was convergence, and Linear's ability to design and
deliver chips that worked across traditional product boundaries.
Together we came up with the idea to use actual news headlines to
illustrate the giant business opportunity that was in front of it. The
magazine style format, and bold visual style, reflected the spirit of
creativity, out-of-the-box thinking, and attitude necessary to be a
leader in the semiconductor industry.
